And now for something completely different. Maybe. Not really. Well, sort of.
Here at Tellest, we’re huge fans of promoting the works of others. I started off wanting to write fantasy books that I was hoping other people would enjoy, but it’s become about spreading the word for fans of fantasy to find enjoyment. And there’s perhaps no better way to do that than with oBooko. They’re a totally free site that shares free books to its audience, completely with the permission of the authors. Registering is easy, and the ads on the site are very non-obtrusive. And you don’t get any ads from the books themselves. As of this writing, there are 163 free fantasy books available, but there are countless other categories to dive into as well.
When you head to each of the book pages on oBooko, you’ll be shown a rating, excerpts from the books and links on how to find your favorite new authors out in the world. You can even see the other books that the author has written that are also on oBooko. Tony, Tim and Sarah have done a tremendous amount of work with this site, and it shows. Read on to discover a little bit more about oBooko before you get started picking up your new free books!
Obooko was founded in 2009 by graphic designer, Tony Stanton. The idea was to build a book distribution platform, which would provide an opportunity for new writers from all parts of the world to self-publish their work and offer it free of charge. Their books would be evaluated by readers and awarded a star-rating and direct feedback. The primary and driving thought however was to create an easily accessible source of legally-distributed fiction and non-fiction that would be open 24 hours a day to anyone, regardless of means. This would be especially beneficial to those around the world who could not afford to buy books: students, those who struggle on low incomes and people in underdeveloped countries where books are inaccessible.
In addition to Fantasy, the site now offers a huge range of over 2300 free ebooks in all genres and categories.
It’s awesome to find people who are so passionate about stories. The fact that you can head over there right now, and all it takes is a quick registration period… That’s really cool. oBooko does nothing but free, so you’re sure to find something there that you’ll love. As Tellest is primarily a fantasy site, we’re recommending you start with that section of oBooko, but after that, go nuts! Thanks to Tony Stanton for reaching out to us. Now go find your next favorite book!
