Greetings travelers! Today we’re going to do something a little bit different and look at, or rather listen to, one of the stories from the Otherworld. It’s a middle grade contemporary fantasy book that seems ready to introduce not just one world, but a whole slew of them. So if that’s the sort of thing you’re listening for, let’s check out Melany Angelike and the Five Guardians.
Author Jean-Pierre A. Joachim starts his fun contemporary fantasy, Melany Angelike and the Five Guardians, with a letter and a mystery. A letter with nothing written upon it arrives for young Melaney Angelike, and it sets off a series of investigations, where the story’s characters try to understand just why such a thing would happen. The audiobook feels more like a radio play, with each of the characters among its cast being voiced by a different actor. The narrator fits perfectly for a magical mystery, and young Melaney sounds authentically like an eleven-year-old girl, and she plays the part with earnest delight.
In Nevers, a quiet suburban neighborhood, young Melany stumbles upon a hidden world when she discovers an envelope with an unusual secret. The words within remain concealed until a mysterious revelation unlocks her connection to a distant guardian, Eleonor Purelight. As Melany’s life takes a surprising turn, she must navigate the secrets of her past and her new mission. Will she embrace her destiny and fulfill her duty, or will the unexpected challenges that lie ahead prove too daunting for an eleven-year-old?
‘Melany Angelike and the Five Guardians’ is a thrilling story of the extraordinary journey of a young girl in a world of spiritual realms, guardians, and her own hidden potential.
The story isn’t without its academic value either. Throughout the two-and-a-half hour runtime, there are plenty of times when bits of world history are revealed, giving listeners plenty of opportunities to make a note in their mind for something to consider in greater detail later. The story excels in its cases of middle grade whimsy though, and gives Melaney and her sense of wonder plenty of time to shine, alongside its interesting cast. If you’re looking for the beginnings of what promises to be a growing fantasy universe, don’t wait. Check out Melany Angelike and the Five Guardians on the Google Play store today!
