Greetings readers! We started the week off with an interview, which usually means we’re revisiting a world we’ve seen before, only that time alongside the author. Today though, we’re exploring a mixed-up world full of mixed-up animals. This is going to be one that kids and pet-lovers are going to really enjoy. Get ready to learn more about Jumbalot!
Author Ryan Wakefield is a man with a plan, and the talent to bring it all to life. Not only did he write the wonderfully charming Journey to Jumbalot, he also illustrated it! Wakefield wanted to create a fantasy world that young readers could escape to, and Jumbalot provides that in abundance. From the first page of the story, readers will see that there’s more than meets the eye, as you’re watching things from the perspective of the cat, Alby. And if the first chapter lays some groundwork for the book to explore some peculiar situations, the rest of Journey to Jumbalot builds the world in earnest, and kids and kids at heart will absolutely love it.
A glowing doorway. A lost friend. Will one loyal pet turn out to be the hero of the hour?
Alby the housecat has no desire for adventure. Rescued from the street by the kindly Professor Wizoom, he’s grateful to be safe and lazy. But when his master vanishes through a magical door, the scaredy cat summons what little courage he has and races in after him.
Stuck in a strange land of mixed-together animals, Alby teams up with an irritating froguar to locate his missing owner. But when he’s mistaken for a spy, the lonely feline finds himself caught in a war between wolvaraptor pirates and noble tigeroon knights!
Can the timid feline conquer his worries in time to save the day?
Journey to Jumbalot is an award-winning, action-packed middle grade fantasy novel. If you like talking animals, daring deeds, and enchanted worlds, then you’ll love Ryan Wakefield’s illustrated quest.
Not only has Wakefield developed a lovely story here, he’s also built a compelling world that shows a tremendous amount of promise and potential. Kids will think about Jumbalot when they’re not reading it, and they’ll itch for the opportunity to come back to it. With luck, this is only the first stop in young readers’ adventures in this world. It teaches them compassion, bravery, and imagination, and it wraps it up in a story that kids and parents won’t soon forget. Check out Journey to Jumbalot on Amazon today!
