Welcome travelers. We’re back looking at one of the cities of Tellest, and at their sigil.
Today we’re looking at a sigil from Blacklehn, and giving them a bit more presence on the map. Thus far, Blacklehn has become one of the places that we’ve spent a considerable amount of time, thanks in part to the original Child of the Stars trilogy, and some exploration through the central column, as well as along the southern border. But it was D’Aprile’s Fools that really helped us take a deeper dive, as everything at play was in that kingdom. Today, we’ll be looking at one of the villages from that area, Ellingsor.
There is a type of hunting bird in Blacklehn called a Blacklehnian Divebird, and that is what the people of Ellingsor have adopted as their sigil. This is perhaps one of the more futuristic/modern looking sigils that we have, but it’s easy to paint, so you figure given enough time, it was bound to happen eventually. There was once a lot of pride in the symbolism of the kingdom, and in a lot of ways, this bird represents what was lost since Galen Fowler showed up and sort out outlawed any magic that didn’t benefit him. That might be changing once again, but that’s neither here nor there.
Ellingsor has been around for a while, but as you might guess, life has been harsh in Blacklehn. There’s a good chance that the newer-looking sigil is just that, a more modern version of an older sigil they might have had, or a reinvention of the village altogether. In any case, there likely aren’t a lot of older versions of the sigil lying around, and certainly not any that have had a chance to get older and chipped. Give it enough time though, and everything begins to fade away.
Ellingsor is landlocked except for the river that runs close to its southeast, and as such, the only place most people would see their banner flying would be atop a merchant carriage, or draped from one of the administrative buildings in the village. It’s starting to grow a little bit again, but it’s slow going because of the threat of tyranny from Blacklehn’s line of rulers.
As I mentioned earlier, the sigil for Ellingsor is relatively easy to draw. It wouldn’t be all that surprising to see these on wagons, especially once Ellingsor started to put up a fight against the Ebon Hammer. The village itself doesn’t have enough strength to stand up against the tyrants, but it doesn’t really have to, as it has found heroes willing to fight for them. In time, their symbol might even end up as one of hope for all Blacklehnians who are trying to get out from under the thumb of Galen Fowler and his mercenaries.
As always, we leave you with one final picture: the phone background. I hope you enjoy it!
That’ll do it for today, but we’ll back again soon with more from our sigils!
