Today we’re looking at a sigil from the continent of Lustra, the continent where we’ve spent the most time after Draconis. While we’ve mostly spent our time in the southeastern side of Lustra, there’s still some busy happenings on the other end of the immense island. The continent is known for being home to many of the races, and the race we’re looking at today, the gnolls, have been known to harass the people of Versali-Virai, who we’ve spent time with before. Read on to learn more about Cynos.
The gnolls of Cynos want to be known for one thing: tearing their opponents to pieces. Therefore, their sigil is plain and simple: a vicious set of teeth ready to do as much damage as they can. Resting upon a blood red field, the context is pretty clear. Though there are certainly other races in Lustra that can cause problems for the elves and humans, the gnolls of Cynos regularly exhibit their dominance as the foes of the goodly races.
Cynos is a relatively young city, all things considered. Gnolls aren’t the easiest people to wrangle together, so it’s taken some time for them to create a city that is more than just a large encampment. Even just the talk about walls surrounding tents was a hard sell to those who had a lust for battle, and had any reservations about meeting it head on, should anyone seeking justice come charging right at them. But with a little bit of logic, those who were able to talk some sense into their compatriots—a smart gnoll fights more battles. After a while of that, it was perhaps possible to put the fangs atop the wooden battlements, and faced with the weather as it was, even in a short while, the sigil could show its wear and tear.
Now, one thing that Cynos is not known for is being close to the coast. They’re very much in the central region of the continent, with the mountains at their back. Because of that, there isn’t a tremendous amount of trading going on, although they do have a river that leads toward the coast, so they might have smaller merchant vessels that they throw their banner atop. But they would be more prone to take what they want from their enemies at the sharp end of a halberd.
Now, more often than not, if someone is painting that sigil, it’s not on a wall or a floor, or a tent or anything like that. It’s on the bodies of the warriors of Cynos. Imagine watching a red-stained (possibly blood-stained), hulking gnoll with fangs painted on their chest charging at you from across the battlefield. Not exactly something you’d want to stand against. It would drastically crush morale, which is exactly the sort of thing that the gnolls of Cynos want.
As always, we leave you with one final picture: the phone background. I hope you enjoy it!
We’ll be back in a few weeks with a new sigil. Stay tuned!
