Don’t risk getting too close to any of the characters, as Ahedi is not afraid to kill her darlings. She has plenty in her cast, too, and while there are certainly a few that feel like they may be protected by plot armor, you can never be too sure in the first book in a series. Though there are some figures of authority that lend a hand and some advice, the hope of future is sometimes left in the unlikeliest of people, and that adds a little bit of magic to this wonderful epic sci-fi.
