Greetings, travelers! It’s been a week for you, likely, but it’s been something like half a year since I’ve written one of these up. I gave myself tons of runway, and instead of using that properly, I spent all that time doing other things. There’s no real way for me to find balance with all the projects I work on (seriously, check out the maps, QQ stuff we’ve been working on, etc.), but that is sure to keep things interesting.
We’re taking a look at another character who is inspired by our upcoming TowerSphere experience. I figured it made a lot of sense to have characters from all over the globe, so we’ve got a concept character that comes from the westmost kingdom on Draconis, Gandarst. This barbarian comes from one of the tundra biomes there, which is why we see him with a more rugged look. This art comes to us courtesy of Serge Churbanov, who has always done an excellent job helping us bring these characters to life.
After the initial sketch, you’ll notice that there were some things that we needed to adjust just a little bit. Barbarians are often hulking beasts of characters, but this guy’s head was just about as big as his hand, so we knew we had to ask Sergei to beef him up a little bit. When an individual ab looks about as big as your skull, you almost look like an alien.
With the adjustment, everything looked much more in proportion. It looks exactly as you would probably expect it to look, and became another one of those concept pieces that might end up leading to a bump up to a “day player” of some sort. We do know that we’re going to be exploring the world west of the Dragonsbane Mountains, so maybe we’ll this guy then.
A subtle splash of paint helps to put some finality on our Tundra barbarian, and makes him come alive. If you didn’t know he was a concept character, you might easily imagine him on the cover of a book or something like that. Even though the thoughts are relatively low stakes, Sergei always puts his best foot forward, and delivers incredible work for us.
That’ll wrap us up for our latest TowerSphere character. We’ll have more on the way for sure, so keep your eyes peeled. Thanks again to Sergei for doing a tremendous job with this latest character!
