Hey there folks! It’s been a long while since we had the opportunity to work with Joman Mercado, but we have a treat for you today. In As Darkness Falls, there’s a character by the name of Mesos who works really well with the plot. He’s a dragon hunter, after all, and most of that book revolves around that plot point. A little too convenient, if you ask me…
Anyway, read on to see the process of bringing Mesos to life.
As we often do, we started with some poses. Joman’s got a pretty cool grasp on anatomy, and he always gives us a few cool options.
For our sketch, we went with something that was a little more static. Joman’s work usually features a lot of movement, so we wanted to try going in the opposite direction for a change.
Of course, just because there wasn’t as much movement, that didn’t mean there wasn’t a lot of detail. Check out how busy that line art is!
It isn’t until you have the final piece that you see just how much work went into it. I love the outfit he chose for Mesos. It’s a huge suit of armor, but it’s still got a lot of character and nuance to it.
Anyway, that’s it for now. What would you like to see from Joman in the future?
