Howdy folks. We’ve finally arrived at our last stop of the week, and let me tell you, it’s an awesome one. We’ve had an epic cosmic fantasy, a snarky contemporary portal fantasy, and we’re wrapping up the week with an excellent, epic coming-of-age fantasy. Read on to find out more about The Eighth Stone.
Author Bruce Pedersen arrives on the scene with a captivating new fantasy that young adults will truly enjoy. In The Eighth Stone (Lands of the Faith Book 1), readers will feel the familiar pull toward the paths that fantasy has gone down before, but Pedersen always keeps the scenery fresh, breathing new life into it. The part of the world the author developed is the focus, and you can tell that he has taken care to bring a lens to it. Though there are shadows of the greater world left to be explored, the author ensures the reader is never too overwhelmed by the details, instead looking toward the excellent characters and their relationship.
Lara, a princess still devastated by the loss of her mother; Jethro, an apprentice to a failed painter; Arlan, a warrior barely out of training. Only these three can stand in the way of the dark forces now loose in the Lands of the Faith.
Only they can prevent a plot by Lord Draxta of Fornea to find the secret keys that will unlock powers from the past that should have remained buried forever. They must travel eastwards from their homeland Maltia across the other lands, in a race to find the last key before Draxta and the mysterious priest who never leaves his side.
There will be a final deadly clash at Hazrakeel, the ice castle in the middle of the desert, where the last key can be found and the gate to the dominion of death can be opened.
But none who enter through the gate can return without sacrificing the life of another.
The Eighth Stone moves along at a nice, brisk pace. Readers won’t feel as though they are lingering in any place along the story for too long, and there are more than enough suspenseful moments that launch them forward into the next fun reveal. If you’re interested in starting a new journey with some charming characters that you’ll be thinking about long after you turn the last page, this is the series for you.
