Greetings Otherworld travelers, and welcome to another of our stops amongst the stars. Today we’re returning to a world that we’ve visited before, but while we had a taste before, we’re here for a whole main course this time around. If you’re interesting in sweeping epic fantasies, you’ve come to the right place. Read on to learn more about The Yawning Gap (The Wanderers Cycle Book 1).
Those of you who have seen our promo for C.V. Vobh’s The Warlock may have already had a taste of the Wanderers Cycle. But the author’s first feature-length foray into his world, in The Yawning Gap, is absolutely stellar. Vobh’s prose is a wonder all in its own, as there is a delightful poetry to the used words, and a cadence that drives the story forward alongside majestic characters. The author excels at bringing them to life as well, and they each have a “figure of legend” feel to them, captivating readers and ensuring they want to learn more about them. Vobh takes the utmost care of his characters, giving them time to shine whether they are heroes or villains.
Invisible boundaries have isolated Cor’s village for centuries. He accidentally finds a way out.
What he finds outside is a violent and blighted world in decline. He learns that the entire world has been fragmented by similar boundaries, which are leeching their power from life itself. Unless something is done about the boundaries, what’s left of life will come to an end.
That heavy task falls on Cor’s shoulders. Fortunately, he soon finds friends and fellow wanderers willing to share the load. Together, they venture across their small, fragmented world into the vast unknown beyond the boundaries.
What they find there threatens their world … but also just might save it.
This epic fantasy is Book One of the Wanderers Cycle.
The Yawning Gap is every bit the sort of story that a passionate, determined, talented fan of fantasy would write, and readers will kick themselves for missing out on this. The world feels very rich and deep, with repositories of lore, prophetic songs, and immense potential. The leap from The Warlock to Vobh’s full length work is phenomenal, as it shows that he can expand on the breadth of his skills without sacrificing anything to reach the other side. All in all, this story hits all the notes that fantasy fans want to experience. With more from this series yet on the way, there has never been a better time to dive into the incredible world that Vobh crafts.
