Greetings, travelers. A few months ago, we took a trip into the Otherworld that was as spectacular as it was gritty. It was a dive into the world of Eria, across five different stories, as author Dean Kastle introduced us to the characters in his harsh and realistic medieval fantasy world. Sword Songs served as a prequel, introducing us to a few characters that would take precedence in the upcoming trilogy he is working on, starring the peerless warrior Geth. His story continues in Dog of War, the first book in the trilogy. Read on to learn more about this awesome tale.
Dean Kastle writes like a warrior poet, every one of his action sequences gliding about like expertly choreographed dances of steel on steel. That’s integral to his style, because Geth, the hero in his book Dog of War, is so keyed into battle, whether it’s a skirmish on a street, or a bloody bout alongside his best friend Phelan. Dog of War follows the pair as they escape their harsh lot in life, as well as the vengeful gaze of justice. To be clear, Geth is a hero, but he’s done some things that he knows are anything but good. But he’ll do anything for his friends, and there’s still honor there amidst the darkness that his anger can sometimes summon up. When he finds a new liege lord to raise his flag behind, he has to try and determine how best to rein in his rage.
Scorn. Abuse. Betrayal…
From bonebreaker in the employ of a heartless moneylender, to fugitive from the law, life isn’t easy for a gutter-born sellsword like Geth. When one final injustice lands him on the run, his next stop is the hanging tree, until one man sees past his flaws to offer a fresh start.
But that young man could be the one person in all the wide world with more enemies than him.
Beside a throne encircled by enemies, within a realm threatened by savage tribes, Geth must protect a fledgling king at all costs. No one appreciates his deadly talents more, and no one is in greater need of a strong sword-arm by his side.
But can Geth keep him alive?
Horns will sound. War drums will thunder. Geth will face sinister witchcraft, trial by ordeal, single combat, and full-scale battle. He must protect the king or die beside him. It’s that, after all, or lose everything: worthy lord, newfound home, and life as a man, not a mere dog of war.
From assassins to duels to scenes of epic battle, DOG OF WAR will thrill and entertain. Get your copy now and step into the adventure!
“Readers of Joe Abercrombie and Brandon Sanderson will love this series for the unrelenting fight scenes and gallows humor.”
“Gritty, masterful… Dean Kastle is the fresh new voice we’ve been waiting for in fantasy.”
Beyond Kastle’s incredible fight sequences, his world of Eria feels rich and lived in. It never feels like the author is making things up as he goes, but as though he’s helping guide readers through towns and cities that truly exist, and into the unchecked wilderness where anything is possible. Geth’s adventures take him through many twists and turns across Eria, with enemies at the gates, and within them. Between explosive battles, sinister betrayals, and courageous trials, there is something for everyone here in Kastle’s first feature-length book. Check out Dog of War, book one of the Dog of War saga, on Amazon today!
Note: For the sake of transparency, I want readers to know that I was the editor for this series. Dean is an incredible storyteller, and I was swept up in Geth’s journey, and found myself emotionally drawn to so many of the moments across the trilogy I worked on. I’m looking forward to seeing what else Dean is going to bring to the table, and I’m eagerly awaiting the fourth book in the series. The first two books are currently out, so don’t wait to join this awesome fantasy universe!
