Greetings travelers! Welcome to a new look at one of our old characters, completely re-envisioned for the modern Tellest.
Today, we’re looking at Retrus O’Ryan, a grey character who had some real tough times that he went through in the original trilogy. We had to take him back to basics, and figure out how he went from there, and part of that was determining what happens to his home if certain things don’t transpire.
For instance, what happens to Valtega if Tarson doesn’t take over Saveon? That led us to find out that Retrus is a bit more pirate-y in this case.
One of the other things that Retrus does is embrace something new: a power that he didn’t have before. It’s not an innate power, but instead comes from the jewel that he wears within his eye socket. As someone who was never shy about not wearing an eyepatch, it was fun to explore what happens when his previous timeline and his current one collide.
With a few extra splashes of color, you can really see just how far Wern went with this character art. Retrus looks absolutely fully realized, with plenty of personality. He’s going to allow us to explore a whole new side of him, and the part of the world that he lives in.
This final look at the character makes him even more expressive. It’s the little things, like the tattoos, that really make Retrus shine.
We actually had Seeger, Retrus’s brother, show up a while earlier, but Retrus got lost in the website chaos we had last year. Glad to have the two brothers together at last though!
