Greetings, travelers. We’re back today looking at one of our hero-level characters from the world of Tellest. I’ve known about today’s character for some time, but she was never committed to the written word before I collaborated with Wern Szuen Lee to bring her to life. Let’s dive in.
Evelyn Ulis is the sister of Nestor, who we’ve met in the legacy timeline. Whereas Nestor’s skills are derived from years of training, his sister has been affected by the Strain, and has a peculiar ability indeed. Poison cannot afflict her. As such, she’s prone to experiment with things that most people wouldn’t dare to. She doesn’t have to worry about ill effects, so she is free to experiment to great lengths. Our original sketch here has her looking a little more like a classic mage or witch, but we wanted to shake things up a bit.
Her attire feels a little more modern, perhaps, but it also makes her look a lot more dynamic than your regular ol’ mage. With a little more refinement, you can also better see the sort of lion-like fleece she wears. We added this to the mix because she, like her brother, is a member of the Viscosa TowerSphere team.
A splash of color helps to bring her to life, even as she messes with death. Her potions have been known to have necromantic powers, and she also uses them to exercise control over her familiars. In this case, she uses it on the crow that serves her.
Nearly there with our penultimate version of the artwork, and Wern is showing just why he’s become such an integral part of our artistic bridge forward. Every part of Evelyn’s look is coming together, from the black attire to the lion-like cape.
And here you have it. With even greater fidelity, you can see all the cool things that Wern did to really show a lot of expression on this awesome character. Evelyn has a dark sort of feel to her, but at the same time, she almost has an innocent look to her. That’s because we’re trying not to have things so strictly black or white in the new timeline. Just because this peculiar witch is playing with dark magic, does that make her evil?
That is going to wrap us up for today, but we’ll have more character work to show you in the future. Thank you for checking out this wonderful new character with us!
