Greetings travelers. I’m very excited to show you today’s post, because it has been a long, long time coming. We’ve had very few orcish characters show up in the Tellest universe, and that’s a bit disappointing, especially as I played on the horde for so long!
What we’re going to be showing you today is a bit of a future character—one we haven’t seen in a story yet, but who we will before long, and who you’ll see along with other characters soon enough as well.
Harun Jadar is actually a half-orc, giving us the opportunity to work our way through a culture that we’re a bit unfamiliar with through the lens of someone who feels like a bit of an outcast. It isn’t until young Harun is incepted into the Wardens, a group of warriors who has been trained specifically to deal with renegade and dangerous wizards who could possibly use their magic for nefarious deeds.
I absolutely love when my artists piggyback off of each other, and in this case, we ended up using the warden shield design that Azot originally came up with. While the original artwork has a bit more of an arcane school of magic effect in the shield, you can see here, even in the black and white sketch, that it’s doing something related to fire. We wanted to get across that any spell that is caught by the warden could potentially be used as an arcane counterattack.
So, we already have a group of glistening white-clad knights in our forces from Gardone. We wanted to have the wardens appear a bit differently. They’ve got a nice mix of black and gold that shows their elite status, but in enough of a way that it separates them from Blacklehn. The wardens are likely from the area between Genger’Mar and Atalatha, or at least in that region. Harun, being the youngest of the wardens at this time, is also the first orc that’s ever served in their ranks. But when you show your acumen and your valor in fighting, you catch the eyes of people who are looking for champions, and Harun cut through all of the doubts of his age or his heritage to earn a place amongst the wardens.
Now, this is certainly not the last we’ll see of Harun. We’re going to be catching glimpses of him in a few projects as we march forward, so keep your eyes peeled for more of our first big orc character!
