Good day to you, questers.  We return for our third and final sneak peek (at least until we go live with our Kickstarter) for the Torture Chambers exclusive bonus for our Quantum Quest expansion.  Let’s dive right into it.

War Golem Foundry

In much the same way we ended up using the Chronolord because of art that Sergei gave us for Merge Dungeon, the war golem you see in this art came from that game as well.  We figured a worthy upgrade to the stone golems we had in the original set was a metal golem, and it just played very well with what we had.  We actually had an alternate version of the war golem, which we’ll perhaps show off as a part of the Kickstarter when it comes time.

Disintegration Field

Disintegration Ray was one of those cards that was gentle, and we sort of liked that it was that way.  Even though these are torture chambers, we didn’t want to go too crazy with the changes.  Instead, we just added a qualifier where, if the adventurer this card damages dies, the party’s trip through the dungeon continues.  Any time you might trigger additional chambers is risky, after all!

Plague Rat Den

Our lowest damage chamber from the original set also gets a new upgrade.  Changing our rats to plague rats was an easy enough aesthetic change (and again, we pulled from our Merge Dungeon game for inspiration).  We also just added a point of damage, and increased the mana cost to make it competitive with other cards in this set.

Red Dragon’s Lair

The Red Dragon joins Quantum Quest’s heavy hitters, standing tall enough to eat some of our adventurers in one bite.  With a qualifying mechanic that allows the chamber to deal up to five damage to an adventurer, this one is no joke.  And of course, even if the player does have the prerequisite to avoid the extra damage, they still take three.  It’s pretty rough!

Well, that’s going to be it for us for now.  We’re still working on getting the Kickstarter together, so keep your eyes peeled for that.  If you’re looking to stay updated, you can subscribe to the Black Furnace Games mailing list here.

Greetings questers, and welcome to our second and final sneak peek of our exclusive Torture Chamber bonus for the upcoming Kickstarter expansion of Quantum Quest.  We won’t waste too much time today, let’s just jump right in!

Vengeful Apparition

With Vengeful Apparition, we wanted to take the “little or lot” damage idea, and ramp it up a level.  While Lingering Apparition had a qualifier where the player would take more damage if a warrior was not present, this new, tougher version of the card deals more damage if any of the player’s adventurers have died during the game.  Add to that the fact that only clerics can capture it and it’s a much meaner card.

Arcane Lightning

Lightning Spire was one of my favorite cards from the first set, as it gave players the ability to determine whether or not they wanted death by attrition, or death by lightning.  One way that I felt we could empower a version of those cards was to take that choice away, ensuring that both mana and health was lost in the process.  Arcane Lightning is also just a more expensive card, meaning it plays into more strategies overall.

Destruction

Corruption can usually be pointed at as one of the meanest cards in the game.  Losing your real estate is never a fun feeling, but when you’re bringing out a booster pack called “Torture Chambers” you know things can always get worse.  Enter Destruction, which not only takes the closest owned chamber away from the player, but also damages them if the chamber is close by.

Rolling Fireball

Arguably one of the more damaging cards in the original set, Rolling Boulder was already a painful card to land on, if you rolled poorly.  That meant that by default, Rolling Fireball would become a heck of a lot worse.  And how do we ensure that?  By making sure only one class can claim it, by making it cost more, and by making the player trigger another effect when they reach the next chamber.  It doesn’t get much worse than that!

Well folks, that is it until we officially announce the release date for the Kickstarter.  I hope that you enjoyed your time with these new chambers, and that you’re eager to add them to your table!

Welcome, questers!  Later this year, we are going to launch our Kickstarter for the long-awaited expansion, Reinforcements.  While we already looked at a lot of the art that is bringing those cards to life, today, we’re going to look at some of the exclusive bits of art that feature in our Torture Chambers cards, which are going to be items you can only get from us on Kickstarter or from live events like conventions.  Let’s dive right in.

Mana Sap

A more deadly version of Mana Burn, Mana Sap not only takes away enough of your mana to make a trip around the dungeon keep you in the negative, it also penalizes players who don’t keep a steady stream of mana incoming.  Taking damage because you don’t have enough mana might seem cruel, but that’s the nature of these cards!

Archlich’s Lair

A nasty upgrade to the original Lich’s Lair, the Archlich’s Lair costs more, does damage to every single adventurer class that’s available, and can only be claimed by clerics (as opposed to clerics and mages from earlier).  This really is a tough one to survive for long bouts in the dungeon.

Phantom Chains

In the original set, Spectral Hand damaged an adventurer and sent them back a bit, but it was rather benevolent beyond that.  Phantom Chains, the scary bigger brother, makes you trigger the effects of the room you land in, and it costs more to boot!

Demon Door

More damage, a higher cost, and a definitive instruction not to collect mana if you pass the entrance—Demon Door is plenty mean when compared to Shadow Door.

That will wrap us up for today, but we’ll be back in a short while with our final preview of the torture chambers until we go live with the Kickstarter.  More details on that soon as well!
