Howdy folks!  It’s been another incredibly busy week at Tellest as we visit one Otherworld destination after the other.  I always like when we have some kind of exotic stop on Friday, and I’ve got a very cool one for you today.  We’ve been lucky to show off some LitRPGs before, and all good ones at that.  Today we have the honor of showing off one by a renowned author with a stunning track record.

Kirill Klevanski’s Dragon Heart: Stone Will is a shamelessly addicting read that you will have you on the edge of your seat.  Dragon Heart is a mix of LitRPG and Wuxia, something that you may not have seen blended together before, but that Klevanski combines to stunning effect.  It doesn’t hurt that the author has a penchant for great character development, witty dialog, and the kind of story and lore that has you flicking through the pages, eagerly awaiting the next big twist.  It’s a satisfying balance that has earned Klevanski heaps of reads, praise and accolades since he’s been writing it.

He was born anew in a world where martial arts were indistinguishable from magic.
He only received a neuronet and meaningless desires from his past life.
What lies ahead?
He dreamed of adventure and freedom, but those dreams were taken away from him.
The same way his mother, father, and sister had been taken away.
They took the Kingdom, they took his own destiny.
But he is willing to wage a war, against the whole world if need be, to bring everything back.
Even if the army opposes him, his sword won’t waver.
Even if the Emperor sends the legions, his step won’t falter.
Even if demons and gods, heroes and enemies alike are to unite against him, he won’t bend to their will. His own will is iron itself, unstoppable.
His name is Hadjar and he heeds the call of the dragon heart within him.

Dragon Heart has been a huge success for Klevanski.  With a sixth book coming out this summer, it’s a fantastic time to jump into the first book in the series.  If you’re a big fan of LitRPG, or even if you’re new to the genre, you’ll find there’s a lot to enjoy with this awesome saga.  The story is compelling, the characters interesting, and the promise for new great content is always on the horizon, as Klevanski is a phenom when it comes to his writing duties.  Check out Dragon Heart: Stone Will (Dragon Heart Book 1) on Amazon today!

Howdy folks!  It has been just over a year since the last time we visited another world inside the Otherworld.  What I’m talking about, of course, is LitRPGs, that genre that exists that makes you feel like you’re part of a virtual world, watching action unfold from the inside.  And today I’m very happy to possibly be introducing you to one of the more prolific LitRPG authors out there, Andrew Bardsley.  We’re going to be specifically talking about his Resurrection of Adventure (Book 1): Dirty Rotten Magic, which is part of the Return of the Master’s Quests: Resurrection of the Masters LitRPG series (phew, that was a mouthful, even for typing fingers).

It’s worth noting almost immediately that Bardsley is a master of the genre, and he knows how to bend its rules and concepts to make things really enjoyable.  Chrix, his main character, takes advantage of the real magic system by introducing something the game characters have never seen before in stage magic and sleight of hand, to great effect.  With a nice mix of humor, action and intrigue, fans of the genre are sure to rip through this book in no time—which makes it convenient that its sequels have already been released.

He was killed on earth in a deadly street fight. Just because he was trying to survive on the streets by running a con. Chrix finds himself in a world full of action and adventure. To his excitement, he finds that this world is full of magic and monsters. But he has to start out with no combat or magical skills. So this would be conman has to fake it too survives. This leads him into a dangerous situation that nobody would normal survive.

The following is an extract from the book:

She shouted, “You’re a dirty rotten cheat! You’ve been playing us all along.”

As she shouted, the rest of the group backed off. They had clearly been expecting an explosion from the woman. I just sat in my chair with a calm smile on my face, looking her directly in the eye. She had one of her daggers in her hand and threw it directly in between my eyes.

Just as her dagger was about to penetrate my temple, the shield I had been preparing all day flashed into existence with a blue wave of energy.

The dagger froze in place as the man from the guild muttered, “Magician,” with some fear.

I was still looking into her eyes as I had not flinched or blinked, but was still smiling as if nothing had happened.

The dagger dropped to the floor with a clang and I said, “Fire magician, actually.”

One of the man’s pipes had fallen to the ground during the ruckus so I picked it up and relit it with a small flame. Passing it to the trembling man, I said in a dangerous tone, “I insist that we continue.”

This had been my real gamble. After being burned by a fire magician and left for dead, I guessed that nobody wanted to suffer that fate. I’d been charging my magical shield all afternoon and hoping that it would be enough for one blow. Luckily, it was. If she had thrown a second time, I would have been dead – or whatever it is that happens to me in this world.

As stated before, Bardsley is a prolific storyteller.  He’s been publishing content since December of last year, and he’s already delivered nearly twenty books since then.  The Return of the Master’s Quests: Resurrection of the Masters LitRPG series is three books deep by now, and Bardsley has more content coming out all the time.  If you want to, you can check out his author website here.  But don’t forget to check out Resurrection of Adventure (Book1): Dirty Rotten Magic on Amazon today!

Hey there folks!  We have an interesting book to bring to your attention to you today, and it’s a first for the Otherworld here at Tellest.com.  Neverfall: Mark of the Hero is the first LitRPG book that we’ve ever promoted.  I’m really happy that we’re starting with this one, because author C. Wintertide delivers a fantastic read that really makes you feel like part of the action.  For those that don’t know, a LitRPG is a nice mix of contemporary real-world, and sci-fi or fantasy, all under the guise of a videogame.  You’ll see game mechanics, statistics and tropes abound in these kinds of books, and they’re becoming a quickly growing sub-genre of fantasy novels.

Mark of the Hero is a great introduction to the genre, and to Wintertide’s writing.  It’s fun and airy, but it also packs a punch, and has a deep story to it.  There’s some familiarity to it, certainly—some nods and hat tips that people who have grown up enjoying sci-fi and fantasy will love.  But there’s also deeper lore and important character development.  And it’s all wrapped with a ribbon that requires game logic to unravel properly.

Neverfall is a coming of age light novel series that takes place in a virtual fantasy world. For fans of action & adventure with earnest young heroes finding their way in a place full of magic, enchanted weapons, and quests that lead them into situations unknown.

High school senior Luke Stephens feels his life is over at age 18. Instead of enjoying his last year in school, Luke cares for his ill mother. As her health rapidly declines, defeating dragons, orcs and goblins with his best friends in their favorite video game has to come last, even if wielding magic and a blade with Mack, Cassie and Christopher is the best part of his life.

But then, Dr. Richard Armitage appears at Luke’s door, and tells him that only Luke can rescue the beta players in Neverfall, the world’s first fully immersive virtual reality MMORPG. The beta players not only believe they are their characters, but think that the world of Neverfall is real, so that when they die in the game, they are dying in real life.

The reason that Luke can save them? His father is the creator of Neverfall, and he has left a back door for just Luke to enter the game, while the developers are completely locked out. The one problem? Luke’s father died before he was born, and the creator of Neverfall–reclusive billionaire Xander Mallory–is very much alive. Is the professor wrong, or has Luke’s mother lied to him all his life?

Luke chooses to enter the game with Mack, Cassie and Christopher by his side to put Dr. Armitage’s plan in motion and save everyone. But when mysterious dragon tattoos are magically burned into Luke’s skin, and people start referring to him as “The Dark Lord’s son” and “Dragon Prince”, Luke realizes that the plan has gone awry, and he must come up with another plan quickly or he, and everyone else, will die.

If you’re looking for an entertaining ride in an LitRPG book with some real stakes, Mark of the Hero is up your alley.  The danger is real for Luke and his friends, making this more than just a game.  C. Wintertide did a phenomenal job putting a balance to the different elements of this book, and it’s you’ll be itching for the followup.  You won’t have to wait long, because book two of the Neverfall series is coming out in late January.  For now, dive in and check out Neverfall: Mark of the Hero on Amazon!
