General description<\/b><\/p>\n

Physical Appearance<\/b><\/p>\n

Pearlfish have pronounced faces, which makes them look like puffer fish.\u00a0 This is because older pearlfish serve a lengthy process within their mouth.\u00a0 They secrete special chemicals that coat bubbles, leaving a small, pearl-like stone in their place.\u00a0 They spit the stones out, then, where they sink to the bottom of the river or lake where they are found.\u00a0 Additionally, the pearlfish has iridescent circular scales which make them distinguishable from other fish.<\/p>\n

Pearlfish have no practical means of defense.\u00a0 It is said that the chemical that they use to turn bubbles into \u201cpearls\u201d is poisonous, but in their final state, the precious stones are not hazardous.<\/p>\n

Where Found<\/b><\/p>\n

Pearlfish are a freshwater fish.\u00a0 They can be found in temperate climates in lakes and rivers.\u00a0 They are indigenous to Draconis.<\/p>\n

Commercial Use<\/b><\/p>\n

Food<\/b><\/p>\n

Because of the chemicals that pearlfish secrete, they are regarded as deadly.\u00a0 Further, they have a bland taste no matter what the fish is cooked in, or what spices are added to the dish.\u00a0 Therefore, the pearlfish is not commercially traded for food.<\/p>\n

Captivity<\/b><\/p>\n

Pearlfish are best used in captivity.\u00a0 A dead pearlfish may yield one or two swallowed stones, but in captivity, they continue to produce pearls.\u00a0 These pearls are then sold to whoever will purchase them.<\/p>\n

Bait<\/b><\/p>\n
