Welcome travelers. We’re back looking at one of the cities of Tellest, and to their sigil.

While we’re usually trending a bit more on the modern side when it comes to our sigils, every now and then we go more medieval, and explore some of the styles and patterns that you’ll see from our history. The checkerboard pattern is a classic, and we wanted Hydor to be a sort of classic feel for the gnolls of Tellest. They’re militaristic without being too primitive, and that’s given them a nice position in the desert that they call home. The symbol itself is the top of a polearm, as that’s what our most famous gnoll wields.

""

Because Hydor is a gnoll city in the harsh desert, it stands to reason that grit and the weather are going to leave their buildings a little worn down over time. The cracked and chipped paint version of their sigil is also bound to show up a little bit more than many other places, just because they’re so antagonistic and ready to jump into a brawl at the drop of a hat. Still, it’s not as though all of their people are merely bloodthirsty savages, and you’re just as liable to see a fresh coat of paint as you are one that’s beaten up and left to break apart.

""

As Hydor exists beside the great mountains in the center of Saveon, it is landlocked, and further surrounded by a tremendous desert. Still, the gnolls have proven that they can thrive even in their harsh home. While the gnolls of Hydor wouldn’t trade by ship, they craft caravans out of sand sleds that help them traverse the wilderness. The merchants are not shy about showing off who they represent, as it would be a foolish idea indeed to cross anyone bearing the Hydorian flag.

""

While the gnolls of Hydor know that their place in life can be a challenging one, they have yet to consider expanding beyond their main city. They’ve found a way to thrive there, and if the fresh coats of paint that they use to represent their ownership is any sign, they don’t plan on leaving any time either. But as they’ve made Hydor their home, and have stabilized the area somewhat, perhaps they will have a natural need to look outward. Maybe then they would spread their sigil farther than the desert sands.

""

As always, we leave you with one final picture: the phone background. I hope you enjoy it!

""

That’s it for now, but as you’ve likely come to expect, we have more sigil projects from Francois right around the corner. We’ll see you soon!
