Howdy folks, and welcome to our midweek Otherworld stop.  Today is going to be a doozy, as we have a big, beefy dystopian science fiction tale that you are going to really enjoy.  Proceed forth, and learn more about The Bystander.

Author Harry Wolden debuts with an epic science fiction set in the not-so-distant future.  In The Bystander, an unthinkable and awesome event shakes the world, leading to situations that Wolden unfolds on themselves in clever and interesting ways.  The story has legs—it’s a massive book—and is told from the perspective of several characters, the main focus of the author’s work.  Wolden is indeed a character author.  He likes to give his cast interesting backstories and motivations, and he sends them forth into uncharted waters, watching how it all shakes loose.  Readers will no doubt enjoy their time spent with them.

A woman and her son prepare to start a new life…

A homeless failed stockbroker walks the streets of New York City, just waiting for another chance…

A C.I.A. operative lies comatose in a hospital bed…

Their lives, and many more, are destined to cross when the world is struck by an incredible global phenomenon…

When time itself inexplicably stops, mankind is trapped in an eternal moment, never ageing and effectively immortal. But still just as ruthlessly ambitious.

As people fight to survive the perpetual evening of a new America, murderous leaders and dictatorial oppressors rise. The brutality of man is brought into focus more clearly than ever before.

Thousands of miles away, on another continent, a different threat is emerging – and the connection between these distant events just might hold the answer to the mystery of time…

Dystopian sci-fi fantasy on an epic scale, The Bystander is a metaphorical allegory of humanity, power-hunger and the ambiguity of war.

After establishing the characters that would monopolize readers minds for the next 500-plus pages, The Bystander takes an abrupt turn and lets the story loose.  It begins as a small observation here and there, but there are real, lasting implications that follow.  Wolden fills his book with plot twists that surprise, excite, and move the story along, never losing pace.  By the end of it all, readers will be happy for the epic tale, and the answer revealed along the way.  Check out The Bystander on Amazon today!

Greetings everyone, and welcome to our newest stop to the Otherworld.  It’s going to be a great week, and with that in mind, we’ve got a great, epic science fiction book that I’m sure you’ll enjoy.  I’m sure you’d rather spend your time reading, so let’s quit wasting time and introduce you to The Rings of Hesaurun.

Peter Harrett writes his story with vivid prose, and enthralls you in an otherworldly yet familiar setting.  In The Rings of Hesaurun, the author takes you on a journey across not only the galaxy, but indeed, even time.  Harrett balances prophetic warnings, dastardly villains and a world on the verge of endless turmoil, and all to great effect.  Readers won’t be able to pull themselves away from one page or the next.

Fleeing an alien menace of galactic proportions, a starship named The Dreamer crash-lands on Earth in the year 2436 BCE. Responding to the crash, the primitive earthlings discover the ship’s commander Valerie Dunne is a 5,000-year-old woman from the future, forced to escape her nemesis, the Boecki, by hiding in the past. Soon they learn the fate of the future world now rests on this strange woman’s ability to harness five Hesaurun rings — rings with the power to destroy, heal, and manipulate time — and somehow, to find a way to alter her own destiny.

An epic Sci-Fi tale of good and evil, rescue and survival, betrayal and love, and a threat to mankind unlike anything the human race has ever faced, The Rings of Hesaurun: Book One burns with the scope and imagination of the greatest Fantasy novels of the golden age. Weaving in a huge cast of humans and aliens, Peter Harrett has crafted a galaxy for readers of the 21st century to believe in…immense, ancient, and mind-bending.

Harrett’s wonderful debut has been described as a feast for the imagination, and it’s plain to see why.  With interesting characters, a premise that feels fresh while checking a lot of interesting pop culture boxes, and enough lore apparent to explore things for many books to come, it’s easy to get lost in what the author has created.  If you’re looking for a captivating science fiction that will keep you on the edge of the seat, look no further.  Check out The Rings of Hesaurun on Amazon today!

Halloween has passed us by, but hopefully you still have some treats to look forward.  If you don’t, you came to the right place!  We’ve got a fun-sized treat for you today that’ll satisfy any cravings you might have.

Newcomer writer Robert Dunn has recently released The Adventures of Nathan and Alexandria.  It’s a fun little portal adventure for young adults that marries sci-fi and horror in some fun ways.  It’s a bit of a challenge to write a sprawling story in less than ten pages, but Dunn certainly builds up his worlds in fun chunks, and he leaves plenty of room to come back to concepts and plot points later on as well.  It’s certain that there’s more of the story yet untold, and if you enjoy this brisk read, you’re sure to be eager to see more.

Nathan is being terrorized at night by three menacing ghouls, each vying for his possession. He tries to explain to others what is happening to him, but no one believes. Meanwhile there are children mysteriously disappearing without a trace. Nathan and Alexandria find themselves in another world trying to sort it all out and must find their way back. Enjoy this portal fantasy short story by Robert W Dunn.

The Adventures of Nathan and Alexandria is a brief but strong start for Robert Dunn.  It puts things in place that you’re sure to find interesting, and it’ll definitely have you wondering what’s coming next, and what could change between this tale and Dunn’s next.  It feels like this is just starting to scratch the surface, and you’ll no doubt be itching for a follow-up.  But to start things off, be sure to check out The Adventures of Nathan and Alexandria on Amazon today!

It’s all been leading to this.  J.S. Morin week is coming to a close here at Tellest.  Don’t be sad though.  He left us with an awesome gift in Human Phase, the sixth and final book in his Robot Geneticists series.

Human Phase continues the trend of excellent writing and storytelling that preceded it in Morin’s other five books in this series.  The moral and ethical questions that the series is known for also move along to this final installment, leaving you waiting to see just how it’s going to play out.  If you’re looking for a fantastic science fiction book, and series, this is the one for you.

The red planet will run red with blood.

Martian terraformer Kaylee Fourteen is a recent immigrant from Earth. Residents of the domed colonies of Mars can practically smell the day they’ll be able to walk outdoors on their own planet without the need for air supplies. But the committees on Earth control the resources the colonists need and their interference threatens the terraforming project’s very existence…

Until a group of radicals takes hostages to force the release of the tech and materials the terraformers need.

Caught in the crossfire, Kaylee has to navigate the delicate line between sympathy for her captors’ goals and horror at their methods. If she can’t keep the peace and find a way to get the hostage takers what they ask for, humans and robots alike will pay with their lives.

How can anyone negotiate a hostage crisis with a bomb locked around her neck?

The fate of two worlds and the balance of power between humans and robots hang on that answer.

I really can’t say it enough.  This book and the series it belongs to are pinnacles of science fiction fare.  Morin does an amazing job putting it all together, and you’ll be sorely missing out if you don’t give yourself the opportunity to read this incredible saga.  Remember, the earlier books are on sale this week, so it’s an excellent time to dive in.  When you’re done with those, pick up this tremendous novel, Human Phase, on Amazon.

Folks, it’s still a J.S. Morin kind of week, so we’re proud to bring you the second book in his Robot Geneticist series.  Don’t forget, the books are all on sale this week, following the release of book six last week.

Brain Recyclers continues where Extinction Reversed left off, perhaps becoming even greater and loftier in the story that it tells.  It brings Eve further toward the front of the tale, and with that shift, we get something perhaps a little more emotional than the first story.  It is, after all, more human.  At the end of the day, Brain Recyclers continues the outstanding quality in writing and page-turning story arcs that Morin has become known for.

Immortality is a prison of fear.

With humanity out in the open, Eve and her sisters are now the subject of worldwide adoration—and constant surveillance. With Eve as humanity’s spokeswoman, it’s up to her to bargain for the freedom she craves now that’s she’s had a taste of it.

But Eve’s pleas fall on deaf ears. Hers is only one voice, lost in a committee of robots hundreds of years her senior. No amount of earnestness can overcome the crushing inertia of the Human Committee.

With no prospect of gaining room to breathe within the rules, Eve hatches a plot to escape and finds out exactly why the robots have tried so hard to keep the humans safe.

The Brain Recyclers are out there. They want to be human again. They will stop at nothing.

The Robot Geneticists series has so much character, and so much depth that it’s hard not to go over the top when heralding all of its qualities.  Brain Recyclers is a fantastic follow-up to an already incredible book (remember, it’s free this week), and this one takes the ball and runs with it.  It’s refreshing as well, because it is still pure, delightful science fiction, but it twists and turns in unsuspecting ways.  Trust me on this, you’re going to tear through this book faster than you realize.  Better to get it now while it’s on sale, but only through the end of this week.  Pick up Brain Recyclers on Amazon today!

We’re starting off 2017’s Otherworld stops with a bang, as we revisit with J.S. Morin’s Black Ocean series.  We’ve worked to bring you news of great deals from Morin’s extensive set of sci-fi books, and we’re so excited to bring you word of another great sale!

The Black Ocean series is as close as you can get to a mashup of Firefly and awesome fantasy.  It’s driving force is the characters, which you’ll grow to adore.  The crew of the Mobius—and the people they meet up with—will stick with you long after you’ve raced through your first read of each of the stories.  And you will rip through these before you realize it!

Science to build a starship. Wizardry to take it past light speed. A crew to give it a soul.

The Mobius is a cobbled-together ship with a matching crew. Captain Carl Ramsey is an ex-Earth Navy pilot whose crew won’t let him fly his own ship. The pilot is his ex-wife, the mechanic is a drunk, and the chief of security is from a predatory species. Instead of a star-drive to travel through the astral space between worlds, the ship’s wizard does it by hand.

Mission 1: Salvage Trouble
A salvage mission turns into a rescue, and no good deed goes unpunished. With two refugees onboard, the Mobius crew is hounded by bounty hunters, border partols, and corporate enforcers.

Mission 2: A Smuggler’s Conscience
“Don’t open the package.” It’s the smuggler’s credo for good reason. When the Mobius crew takes a peek at their illicit cargo, the entire job takes an about-face.

Mission 3: Poets and Piracy
The Mobius crew gets caught in a turf war between a pirate fleet and a galactic criminal syndicate. The trick is getting everyone out alive (and maybe getting paid in the process).

Mission 4: To Err is Azrin
Sometimes you can’t go home again. When a job takes the crew to their security chief’s homeworld, she gets dragged into a familial power struggle. Can the rest of the crew bail her out of an old feud gone horribly wrong?

Bonus Short Story: Guardian of the Plundered Tomes
Mordecai The Brown has been on the run from the Convocation for decades. How does a respectable wizard with a wife and two kids end up crisscrossing the galaxy in the company of outlaws?

This Mission Pack is a wonderful selection of Morin’s stories from the Black Ocean series.  Morin is as prolific as they come, having written a score of books, with more on the way.  If you want to meet a new favorite author, look no further than this.  There’s no better time than now for you to get these four stories either, as the author has dropped the price to 99 cents for a limited time.  Pick it up on Amazon today!

Bonus: you can sweep up the first book in the Black Ocean series for free from Morin’s website.  And since you’ll no doubt love that, pick up the following three books as well, at a very respectable price!

Hey everybody!  We’re here, visiting you between the holidays because we’ve got what is likely the last big promo of the year all set up for you.  This is for a series we’ve showcased a bit before, but it definitely deserves more recognition that we were able to give it before.

The Angel Brings Fire, a series from Marcus Shields, is a perfect recipe for a pseudo-fantasy, pseudo-science fiction mashup.  There’s even elements of superhero fantasies in here.  It’s got one of the coolest concepts you’ll ever hear about too.

Introducing The Angel Brings Fire, an exciting 4-volume series of modern fantasy / superhero novels about a mighty alien being, who may be Earth’s only hope against total annihilation. And the unique gift of the “Holy Fire” that she brings, will forever change the course of human history!

Below, check out the synopsis for the third book in the series.

The cover to the third book in the series, Angel and the Empire.

Having saved the Sun’s third planet from a Doomsday comet, Karéin-Mayréij, the alien “Storied Watcher”, finds herself at odds with the declining, undemocratic United States of 2040.

Things aren’t going well : her new, adopted “family” has just been kidnapped by parties unknown, and the U.S. Air Force, among others, is trying to kill her.

But there’s a reason why Karéin-Mayréij is called the “Destroying Angel”, and the U.S. government is about to find out about it, the hard way. Her lethal supernatural abilities are returning fast, and her friends and family – though in dire straits – are starting to inherit super-human powers of their own.

And the President of the future United States is about to learn the truth of the saying :

“Never get on the bad side, of a fallen angel.”

The series has a very Superman vibe, but in a way that’s more appealing to fans of fantasy, if that makes any sense.  It’s a bit darker than the fare you get from the that superhero in blue spandex too.

Here’s some other good news that might appeal to you as well: the author is working on the sequel series to this wonderful four book set.  We’ll have a lot of reading on our schedule in the next year!

If you’re interested in reading The Angel Brings Fire series from the beginning, start off with Angel of Mailànkh.  You can pick it up on Amazon here.

The Angel Brings Fire can be ordered from Amazon or Barnes & Noble in paperback format, or, in e-Book format, from Amazon, iTunes, Google Books, Lulu, or other fine on-line retailers (average e-Book price per volume : $2.99 U.S.). Just go to Amazon and search for The Angel Brings Fire.”

Hello there folks.  We’re so happy to say that we’re going out this week with a bang.  Before we hit radio silence from the Otherworld, we’re going to bring you one last awesome piece of work from an incredibly talented storyteller.

In a dark and gritty future, Terminal Dark, the work of David Fraser, easily earns its title.  This isn’t the kind of graphic novel you want to read alone in the dark if you don’t want to be on edge.  The images on every page are as gloomy as they are beautiful, and you won’t be able to put it down once you pick up this tale.

2093 AD: Mankind has achieved artificial telepathy by connecting human minds to the internet. Thoughts can be transmitted from one brain to another, memories uploaded, and machines controlled just by thinking. All mankind is connected by a vast neural network…

Into this strange future world comes a serial killer with seemingly supernatural powers. It stalks with impossible stealth, and slays without mercy. On replaying the victims’ final memories, the police discover the killer is a savage new species that could wipe out all human life.

As three detectives race to solve a puzzle of gruesome clues, they discover the mystery behind Terminal Dark is far more disturbing than they ever imagined…

Terminal Dark is a gritty, epic sci-fi thriller set in a world of corporate hitmen, corrupt politicians, and feuding cops…All of whom are being stalked by an unimaginable horror, lurking in the shadows…

Featuring 124 pages of fully painted artwork, every illustration in Terminal Dark springs to life with the kind of texture and detail normally reserved for cover art alone.

Read the first 10 pages for free! Just click on ‘Send a free sample’, on the right-hand side of the Amazon sales page!

No Kindle? Download a free app for reading Kindle books on PC, Mac, Androids, phones, iPads, etc.: https://www.amazon.com/gp/digital/fiona/kcp-landing-page/ref=kcp_ipad_mkt_lnd

By the end of the 10 page sample, you’ll be hooked, that much is sure.  The blurb above doesn’t do the work justice either.  Terminal Dark is clearly the work of someone who has passion for storytelling, artistic design and world building.  Don’t pass up your opportunity to pick up Terminal Dark on Amazon today!

It’s not often that we run sci-fi promos on this site, but I’m happy to say that when we do, they’re almost always for well thought out and cleverly written titles.  In today’s case, we have the second book in an incredibly popular series, The Aegis League.  This sequel, Aegis Incursion, has been receive praise in droves, and you can tell that author S. S. Segran has a deep passion for her work.

Aegis Incursion follows Aegis Rising, a story that easily solidifies itself in Hunger Games, Maze Runner and Percy Jackson territory.  It’s the kind of young adult sci-fi and alternate reality concept that is becoming incredibly popular in our culture, and Segran knocks it out of the park every step of the way.  Both books have become best sellers, and the momentum shows no signs of slowing down.

aegisincursion

On a bright July morning in 1948, a B-29 Superfortress flying a top-secret research mission over Nevada crashes into the calm waters of Lake Mead and sinks, remaining lost for half a century.

It has been nearly a year since five friends – Jag, Kody, Mariah, Tegan and Aari – mysteriously reappeared in a small town in Yukon several weeks after their small plane went down in Northern Canada. All were found unharmed but with no recollection of what happened to them after the accident.

A baffling contagion is spreading across the bread-basket of North America destroying vital crops. As this dark shadow marches across the globe, widespread famine and riots bring desperate nations to the brink of war.

These seemingly unrelated events set the stage for a battle between the forces of darkness and those destined to become the ‘bearers of light’. From ravaged fields in the Great Plains to clandestine installations around the world, the Aegis League must race against time to save humanity.

S.S. Segran has done a prolific amount of work to maintain this world of hers.  It feels like she and her stories are almost everywhere.  If you’re interested in this story, please check it out on Amazon.  You can also join the Aegis League fan page on Facebook.  And if you’re as in love with the series as everyone else seems to be, you can check out the author’s personal website – she’s even giving the third book away for free if you sign up for her newsletter.  Finally, if none of this has you convinced, check out this awesome trailer for Aegis Incursion:
