Character Art – Kiirta

Good morning everyone! We’ve got a special treat for you today, courtesy of Rigrena. For the most part, when we’re commissioning artwork for Tellest, it’s of characters who are established in the books. That’s not the case with today’s piece, which was offered up to one of our artists as a challenge. She wanted to create a new character within the confines of the Tellest universe, and I thought that was an awesome idea. We narrowed down the character to sex and race, and after that, we figured out a plan for how she could fit in with the greater world that’s already been established.

Enter Kiirta, the daughter of Awake‘s Giirtu.

Since Giirtu was imprisoned after what he did to the elves and the human settlement in the book he appeared in, Kiirta has made it her mission to find her father and rescue him.

I love that Rigrena made this character her own, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to make that same deal with our other artists as well. Kiirta has a lot of potential in the future of Tellest, and I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do with her.

Art – Sisters of the Crimson Veil

Hello folks. We’ve got a cool treat for you today. A few weeks back, we showed off Isabella, a vampire from the Crimson Veil. The Sisters of the Crimson Veil was to be one of my Tales of Tellest Legends novellas, but we didn’t quite hit the goal we set out for. That’s alright, though, because it gives us time to let the idea grow and expand. Beforehand though, we commissioned Rigrena to do some awesome concepts of the six-strong sisterhood.

The two biggest characters are center. Isabella is the newest member of the pack, and she’s been taken under Beatrice’s wing. Beatrice shows her the strength in vengeance, and teaches Isabella the arts of combat, stealth and seduction.

The other members of the sisterhood round out the group. From left to right, we have Faina, Eden, Sylvie and Anna.

A little bit of shading shows a bit more of our characters. The Sisterhood exists in kind of a stand-in for India/the Middle East in Tellest, so there’s a lot of beautiful fabrics and body art displayed.

In full color, you can see everyone a bit more clearly. I can’t wait to finally get the opportunity to work on this story. It’s going to be a bit of a passion project once 2019 rolls around, I believe, but we’ll see what happens eventually!

Character Art – Kaiyonani

Hello folks! We’re still recovering from Comic Con Philly, so this post is going be a short one, but still a goodie!

Our latest new property is Dragonspeaker, and with things still fresh in everyone’s mind, we thought there was no better time than the present to show off our awesome kaja, Kaiyonani.

We’ve shown off some of Rigrena’s work before, but now it’s time to see what she can do with an anthropomorphic character.

As is pretty typical, we started off with some basic line art. This let us know what we could expect of the final piece.

And what a final piece it was…

Rigrena loves to give awesome backgrounds to her pieces, so she threw Kaiyonani in the canyon that appears in Dragonspeaker. Her take on the character is also incredible. She has a good sense of motion. And we get the awesome staff that has been featured again and again!

We still have more collaborations with Rigrena on the horizon. Stay tuned for our next one!

Art – Cast of Arise

Hey there folks!

We have just a quick one for you this week, as I’m settling back into things after a loss in the family.

I love working things out with new artists, and Rigrena has been one of the ones I happily put into the win column in the last year. She did some emergency work for us for the Kickstarter in September, and we’ve decided to use her again.

We utilized Rigrena’s skills for promotional work on our last book that’s releasing this year, Arise. The sequel to Awake, we wanted to see her interpretation on Venathryn and Maravek, and we expanded it to our other two heroes, Vandelas and Faradorn.

The finished version is very impressive. I’m a big fan of the beautiful background she put together for us, too.
