Hello there!  We’ve got a cool treat for you today.  As you may know, the last quarter of this year (and really, the year in general) has been spent trying out a lot of new artists.  Our latest one has his own webcomic, Marblegate, that piqued my interest, and when his commissions opened up, I was quick to jump on the chance to work with him.  When I asked Brett Neufeld who within the Tellest roster he wanted to work on, his first choice was Pendrich of Arex.  So let’s dive right in!

We’ll start things off with a sketch.  Brett really wanted to tackle a character with some armor, and you can see why already.  Pendrich’s design is completely ingrained with heavy armor, and an awesome raven-winged helmet.  This time around, we’re showing off Pendrich’s skill with a greatsword as well.

Once we add the color, Pendrich pops even more.  You can see that Brett included some awesome runes to the greatsword, and gave Pendrich a couple of raven companions… Nice little reminders of his earned namesake.

We put Pendrich on a black background because it makes him pop, and also because of his special ability.  If you’ll recall, Pendrich can summon globes of darkness that he uses to engulf his enemies.  His glowing eyes beneath his helmet are testament to this as well, providing him infravision to see his foes even within the pitch black.

Thanks to Brett for giving us a new, cool look at this character!  We’re looking forward to an opportunity to work with him again in the future!

Hello folks!  We’re back today with a look at one of my favorite villains in the Tellest universe, Pendrich of Arex.  He starts off as this incredible force, but I humanized him as we went, and in time, you learn that a lot lurks beneath the surface.  Of course, that surface is hard to make your way through considering he’s got all that armor.  Anyway, before I get to rambling, let’s take a look at Hozure’s awesome look at Pendrich.

We started off with some concepts this time around, as Pendrich’s armor could have been interpreted in a few different ways.  Ultimately, we thought that what worked best was the “round” variant.

After that, it was time to make a pose.  Some of them looked a little too relaxed or a little too aggressive, but Pendrich is at his best when he’s confident and almost passive.

Once we had this beastly man sketched, man did it look cool.  Like Hozure plucked the idea right out of my head.  I love his interpretation of the raven-winged helmet, and the sort of evil looking glow of his eye.

Here you can see Pendrich with all his details, including one of the black orbs of darkness that he can summon.  They get much bigger, of course, but that would have blinded us to Hozure’s awesome work!

Here’s your final look at one of my favorites.  Thanks to Hozure for consistently delivering an awesome look at the Tellest characters!

Once again, folks, we are back with a nice little grab bag of Azot’s work.  Last week we looked at items belonging to a couple of our heroes.  Today, we’re going to look at something that belongs to the darker, and sometimes inscrutable side of Tellest.

Pendrich’s Helmet

One of my favorite characters from the Child of the Stars trilogy was introduced in the second book.  Pendrich of Arex was this huge “dark knight” character who seemed like he could only possibly be a bad guy.  His outfit was a huge part of that.  He wore a raven-winged helmet that I couldn’t wait to see in art form.

Whaaaaat? There seemed to be a slight miscommunication. Azot definitely likes to do a stylized version of things, but this didn’t quite look like what I imagined The Raven’s helmet would be.  This looks cool for something like a knight in a tribal locale, but for our knight from the north…

There we go.  That looks much more the part.  It’s still got Azot’s signature stylistic flourishes, but it doesn’t look like a knight from the bayou anymore!

A splash of color made Pendrich’s helmet look even more badass.

The Veil of Mist

The Veil of Mist was going to be both an artifact and an upcoming book.  I was planning on writing that book during NaNoWriMo this year, but with Quantum Quest as my new big project, I felt it made more sense to write a story about that instead.  Still, the Veil of Mist exists, just outside of a book at this point.

Essentially a cloak of invisibility, the Veil of Mist is not a flawless item.  The garment owns its namesake, as there is a mist that rolls into the area when someone (or something) is draped in this.  Above, you’ll see a few of the different iterations we tried out.

We ended up liking this one the most.  It had a very runic magic feel, and it fit with what we imagined of the cloak better than the other three.

Well, that’s it for now, but you can be sure we’ll be back with more to show off in the next three weeks or so.  See you then!
