Necromancers, huh?  Typically considered pretty evil.  So much so that I used one as the lead villain in my debut release, The Bindings of Fate.  There’s something about the undead that we find particularly unsettling, and that made Juramentado a pretty fun bad guy to play with.

We finally have some new art of Juramentado, this time from Hozure.  Read on to see what he did with this awesome character.

We started off with a collection of poses.  Which one would you have picked?

Yeah, well we picked this one.  This is probably one of the more robust pieces that we did with Hozure, thanks to the inclusion of the undead that Juramentado is raising from the ground.

Everything is made better with a little magic.  It was cool to see Juramentado like this—great job Hozure!

And who knows, maybe this isn’t the last we’ve seen of this necromancer…

Hello there folks!

We wanted to give you a bonus post today, since we’re getting so close to Halloween.  We here at Tellest love the holidays, and we’re going to start to work toward having something for every one of the major holidays.  We’ll have art around Halloween, Christmas and such… and maybe some different kinds of stories around April Fools that are a little more experimental or goofy than the main stories.

Anyway, we worked with Leo for this year’s Halloween piece.  It’s not a huge nod to the holiday, but it’s darker fare than we usually focus on.  And it lets us say hello, once again, to a cool villain who was let go of too soon.

Still not quite sure who it is?  Well why not show off the big picture?

juramento2

Yep, that’s our favorite evil necromancer, Juramentado.  At this point in his life’s story, it could really go either way whether or not he’s ingrained in his schemes of villainy, but it’s still a cool little horror piece.  We’re thankful to Leo for letting us do a little extra this year, and we can’t wait to bring you more holiday goodness in the future!

Hey there folks.  This is our last post on April Fools’ for this year. Promise!

Today, we don’t have any mechs, so we’re just going to really quickly show you our last two characters.  We decided to go with Adelia and Juramentado, because we thought it’d be cool to see what casters would look like in the future:

Marwan gave us a few different choices to work with, and we moved ahead accordingly:

We opted for a pseudo-pixie cut for Adelia because we thought it spoke more for the time you’d see in the future.  Juramentado, on the other hand, kept his cowl, because it made him look more badass.

Adding a layer of shine really made the characters pop.  You can see here that they both kind of have accessories.  Adelia is summoning a shield on her arm, and Juramentado has a trusty raven companion (mechanical, of course).  We kind of rethought each of these characters as tinkerers and scientists in this spinoff.

And there you have it.  Both characters in all their awesome glory.

We really hope that this April Fools’ joke panned out to be as entertaining for you guys as it was for us.  We had a lot of fun with it, and we hope to do more goofy things like this in the future!

You can’t have a nice little art gallery on Tellest without featuring some of the bad guys.  We’ve seen glimpses of them on covers, and RedPear has done an excellent job with Schirner, but even he is secondary to the murderous necromancer, Juramentado.

While he is portrayed as a devious monster in The Bindings of Fate, it wasn’t as if he was born to be evil.  I don’t believe in things like that – in humanity anyway.  You’re the product of a lot of different things, and while a moral compass might be broken from the start, there’s usually some other components of your life that lead you in the wrong direction.

So, like her earlier work on Schirner, RedPear gives us a version of Juramentado that has a little more humanity.

Jura02

This one struck me a bit like he could have been a baddie in a Street Fighter game.  Akumamentado, perhaps.  But our necromancer isn’t as fierce looking as this chap.  Nefarious, yes, but Juramentado is a more like a weak-bodied, middle-aged wizard than a fighter with a broad body and a bad streak.

Jura01

We moved in the right direction with this sketch.  Juramentado was a little more mischievous looking here, and began looking the part of your favorite supervillain.

Jura03

And of course, what better way to give him some extra character than to give him the evil mustache and goatee.  Now he just screams that throaty “mwahahahaha” we all know and love.

Juramentado BW

Look at that!  This is one of RedPear’s most impressive works to date, and I could not be happier with it.  She captures the eerie power of this character, and she does it in a way that makes him seem as though he could have been good.  It makes me want to lean on the way Marvel does things from time to time, and write some alternate reality pieces where Juramentado fought for the side of the heroes.

And as always, you can’t truly appreciate the work that she does without seeing that extra little splash of color.  Her work already has so much personality, but with that extra pop…

Juramentado was done very well, and I can’t wait to show you some of the other work we’ve done throughout these past several weeks!
