It’s been a while since we’ve seen any of the work of our “figurine” artist Skence.  He gave us a look at our heroes from the Tales of Tellest series.  Since then, his talents have improved dramatically, and we wanted to get him on board for a follow-up set, this time focusing on some of the other characters who have shown up throughout the series.  We settled on the idea of introducing some more female characters to his medium, and you’ll see a set of five in the next several weeks.

We’ll start you off with a black and white version of his first finished character.  Alicia Mane—who has been getting a lot of love from various artists over the years—really pops thanks to Skence’s new style.

It’s the colored version that really pops, though.  Everyone seems to really gravitate toward the fire aspects of Alicia.  I suppose it’s easier to really put to page fire when you’re doing art, and it’s probably more interesting than having a random splash of light hanging about without anything to use it on.

Alicia Figurine Transparent

We’re really very impressed without how far Skence’s abilities have come, and this first piece that he got us was an incredible demonstration of what we were able to expect going forward.

Alicia Figurine

Alicia starts us off down this new collaboration.  We hope you’re looking forward to the other ones in the weeks to come!

It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve seen anything from Skence, but we’re rectifying that now.  With the upcoming release of The Fall, we thought it would be a good time to see more images of Icarus.

As is typically the case we the art we commission, we started off with some sketches of the character that would lead us to the final vision.

Icarus Sketches

After that, Skence took us all the way to the end, showing us our angel-winged hero in an awesome light.  We also have a good look at his twin swords here.  Icarus is a force to be reckoned with, and Skence did a great job capturing that.

Icarus

We’ll be back with one final look at one of the heroes of the Tales of Tellest through Skence’s eyes.  Stay tuned!

I always jump at the opportunity to work with a new artist, and as it turned out, the stars aligned recently, and I was afforded the chance to work with Skence, a fellow I met on DeviantArt.  He has a line of League of Legends art pieces that he’s been working on that I thought was incredible.  Naturally, I reached out to him about the possibility of working a collaboration between his style and my characters.

We’re happy to show you the first product of that collaboration, just in time for Bolt month.  Here were Skence’s initial sketches of the lightning powered hero:

Bolt Sketches

As you can see, it’s a slightly different take on the character than we’ve seen before.  He’s more angular and skinny.  Not an altogether bad look, though, and I certainly don’t mind “different.”  Skence’s take on the final piece was equally new in approaching Bolt.

Bolt Thunderfury

In a lot of ways, it doesn’t even look like what you’d think of Bolt. Still, I’m in love with the style, and as I mentioned above, I’m 100% for a different take on an established character if it gets people thinking.  That said, it has got you wondering if that’s actually the Bolt that we know.  Hmm…
