Welcome, one and all, to another new stop along our Otherworld journey.  Today, we’re looking at a story for kids that is sure to ignite a love for fantasy, or to keep that fire burning for those who are already fans.  Read on to learn more about The Wonders of the Peculiar Parasol.

Author Mark M. Even has developed a story that is both family and fantasy friendly and will appeal to a large band of readers.  The Wonders of the Peculiar Parasol: A Dragonstone Story gives kids an opportunity to go on a very enjoyable adventure, fueled by their imagination as well as clover prose by the author.  Even has crafted his tale in a way that makes it feel immersive to its readers, and bring them into the story.  Its one that has all the sorts of fantasy fare that delights fans of the genre, and it practically drips with charm and whimsy.

Hidden under a pile of coats, on an old coat rack in the attic, is a mysterious parasol.

Little do three cousins know that the parasol is enchanted and when held over the shoulder and twirled in the sunshine it has powers that are beyond their reason. Soon enough the parasol shows its capability as Gina is transported into Storyworld, where things are quite different indeed and she is escorted by a man known only as The Valet.

As each child takes a turn to enter the magical land, they experience amazing adventures that they could only have dreamed of, attending a party in a castle or flying through space. And for Mandy, it is the discovery that she is a witch.

Even’s book is one that is great for kids of all ages, and is even suitable for parents who are telling the story to children who can’t read yet.  In any case, it is an exciting and imaginative story about a loving family that sticks with readers even after they’ve read it, and is bound to become a favorite over time.  It’s no wonder that it won a Mom’s Choice Award.  While we can hope that there will be more to come, now is a great time to dive into the Even’s first lovely fantasy tale.  Check out The Wonders of the Peculiar Parasol: A Dragonstone Story on Amazon today!

Howdy folks.  It’s a new week, and we’re starting things off in a light and breezy way with a short story that brings ordinary objects to life in extraordinary ways.  If you were hoping to start your first Otherworld trip off this week to the inside of the pencil box, today’s tale, The Uprising of the Pencils, is right up your alley.

The product of its author’s vivid imagination, The Uprising of the Pencils explores what it is like to see things come alive when we’re not looking.  It’s a touch of Toy Story, but with office supplies instead of action figures and dolls, and Nico Pengin observes the hierarchy of pencils and markers and erasers in interesting ways.

Heavily inspired by the Brain Jacques “Redwall” series, J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and *THAT* famous grasshopper scene in “A Bug’s Life”.

It’s time for an abused population to fight for their freedom.

For humans, it’s just an old cardboard box with school utensils. For the pencils inside the box, it is San Ford, a city where they were forced to live under the ruling thumb of the Erasers. This dominant minority, headed by Ink Earl, have held their power for too long.

The self-named monarch commands brutal repressive actions against anyone who is caught conspiring or breaking the law. Dixon, Faber, and Prisma are just three of the many Pencils tired of the reigning tyranny in San Ford. But one day, the fear widespread by the cruel guards, the Markers, was no longer bigger than their wishes for rising.

Dixon’s prophetic dream reveals the existence of a powerful but dangerous weapon that could end pencils’ suffering. Is a sure victory that could lead Dixon to an early end the one alternative for pencils?

The Uprising of the Pencils is a short read, but it’s packed with plot and character development in its few pages.  Pengin also has a few clever name gags and playful scenes that would really appeal to its younger audience.  Older readers can enjoy it as well, as it is multifaceted, and has a few layers of classic writings and deeper messages sitting atop the playful story.  Check out The Uprising of the Pencils on Amazon today!

You can also find Nico Pengin’s latest on Smashwords.

Howdy folks.  Welcome to another adventure live from the Otherworld.  Today we’re taking a trip to a more popular landmark among Amazon’s hundreds of thousands of books.  Sometimes we make little stops to see the works of authors who are just beginning their incredible journeys.  Our book today has had over a hundred positive reviews and spawned several follow-ups which are also well-received.  This tale is bound to be a favorite.

Lance Conrad, whose been publishing his great fantasies for seven years, started it all with The Price of Creation, the first book in his Historian Tales series.  Conrad puts together an interesting magic system, and develops characters and writes a story around it that is compelling and addicting.  It’s great fun for young adults and older readers alike, as it’s entertaining but also thought-provoking at times.

The Price of Creation is set in a land where each person is born with a small Stone. It enhances their abilities, makes them a master of the one thing they’re meant to do.

The story focuses around one family, whose son is born with a Stone that destines him for great destruction. The father, Aric, has to raise and train his son while protecting him from his own people, who see the child as a threat and want him killed.

When everything falls apart, the boy is banished to a land of savages, called Destroyers. But there, he is able to find out about the history of his own land, where the Stones came from, and what their true purpose and power really was.

Sadavir, the banished child, discovers secrets far darker than the villagers’ petty prejudices. On the far side of the wall, he learns the origin of the Stones’ magic and a war that dates back centuries. As he uncovers the true power locked in the Stones, he must find a way to unite ancient enemies in order to save his family. To stop a genocide, Sadavir must face his own destiny of violence.

Conrad is clearly involved and invested in both the fantasy genre, and young readership.  He writes stories that will astonish, and ignite the spark of literary intrigue, setting them off on creative journeys.  And this series has worthy follow-ups as well, so those excited readers can feed into their new addiction at once.  If you’re looking for a story that is imaginative and immersive, you’ve found it.  Check out The Price of Creation (The Historian Tales Book 1) on Amazon today!

Reading is its own sort of magic, and perhaps no genre so eloquently expresses that as children’s fantasy.  After all, our imagination is stronger than any incantation or wand.  It takes us to entirely other worlds, where anything is possible.

Daniel L Rappaport is particularly involved in making sure you see that magic.  It’s incredibly obvious in his charming story, The Legend of the Lost Rose.  More than just a book, it’s an experience the likes of which you’ve never seen before.

ebook_Legend_of_the_Rose

In a time and place apart from our own there is a dying planet governed by the rules of Magick.

The mysterious rose perched atop the northernmost mountain is dying with the planet; if it dies, the whole world will fall into darkness.

A young flying frog called Spark spends his days creating beautiful paintings in his cozy underground home.

After a while, he can no longer ignore the looming changes coming to his land.
With fewer flies to eat each day, Spark musters the courage to open his eyes and see the true nature of the destruction ravaging his beloved planet.

Under the watchful eyes of the greedy, dragon-like Apovil creature, Spark decides to seek advice from Iris Buttergrow, the oldest and wisest faery in the land.

After the faery Iris Buttergrow reveals the shocking truth behind the impending doom of his planet, Spark embarks on a journey to save the Lost Rose.

Spark crosses vast deserts full of holes and dried seabeds parched by the calamity are just examples of the destruction.

On the way he must find the only Magick in the world that can save the planet…the rare blue Pixie Dust.

However, Spark’s journey isn’t just about traveling miles.

In fact, the key to the planet’s survival is not outside of Spark, but within him.

Will he find the hidden strength within himself before it’s too late?

If he fails, the entire Magickal world will fall into decay and be lost forever.

Debut author Daniel L Rappaport releases his first book in The Legend series – children’s fantasy stories filled with lovable characters, adventure, and an ever-present struggle for self-acceptance and empathy.

I have to stress it again.  The Legend of the Lost Rose is more than just a fantasy novel.  Rappaport manages to give it an extra touch of class with interactive animations and links to things that give it the story a more robust feel.  It’s available on Amazon,  but you’ll get the best experience with the story on iBooks.  There’s also a prequel to the book called Spark the Flying Frog.  Both books have been warmly illustrated by Patricia Gresham.  If you’re a fan of magic, especially that which can be most easily seen by a child, this book is right up your alley.

Children’s fantasy is a crowded genre, and oftentimes, you don’t see some of the better stories rise to the top of the lists.  Whether it’s because of whatever else is popular at the time, or a lack of promotion and advertising, sometimes you don’t often get your work in front of the people who genuinely yearn for the kind of book you’re offering.

Award-winning writer and TV producer Vegard Svingen rises to the challenge with his debut children’s novel, Freddy Fumple and the Mindmonsters.  It captures mystery and intrigue in a lot of great ways, and really makes you question what is possible (and not only in the world that Svingen’s created).

Freddy Fumple’s world is about to turn upside down, in this nail-biting, thought-bursting, hilarious and spectacular adventure that will enthrall you from beginning to end.

Freddy Fumple is not like most other people. For one, he doesn’t care about soccer. What is more, he likes to ponder upon a very special question: «How far is infinity?»

When he and the rest of his family move to an old house out in the country, everything is about to change. Soon Freddy is on the verge of discovering a world beyond his wildest dreams. A world that desperately needs his help. An adventurous place where he finally can get an answer to his giant question.

Providing, of course, his neighbor doesn’t make stew out of him first.

And that he manages to help the confused ghost which is poltergeisting his new room.
And that he avoids being devoured by the terrifying mindmonsters.

If you’ve got a child with a big imagination, or you’ve got an abundant imagination yourself, Freddy’s tale is sure to warm your heart.  The characters are enjoyable and easy to relate to.  You’ll be begging for more before the book even ends.  Svingen’s debut novel is available on Amazon.  Be sure to check it out!

We’ve had our fair share of Children’s Fantasy these past couple of days.  Though Tellest is a little bit more crude and realistic, I would never dream of casting aside a good fantasy, especially one for children.  I hope that these promotions find their way to those young minds that can really benefit from stories like these.

Tina Stickles knows what’s important to young children.  She’s crafted a story centering around the Tooth Fairy and a little boy named Ian who wants to be a superhero.  Saving the Tooth Fairy is a whimsical little tale that has big aspirations.  It’s the perfect bed time story, especially for a little one who might be about to lose their first baby tooth.

Tooth Fairy

Ian is an ordinary little boy, with big dreams of being a superhero. When he loses his first tooth, he is so excited, knowing the tooth fairy will visit. What he doesn’t expect, is the other visitor. He and the tooth fairy are kidnapped by trolls and whisked away to the Forsaken Forest. Ian has to learn to be brave so they can try to escape and find their way home. Will they escape the trolls and find their way back home?

Stickles’ story has just released on Amazon.  It’s also available in hardcover, and at Barnes and Noble.  Pick a copy up today!

We don’t get a lot of children’s fantasy on Tellest, but I’m more than willing to accommodate.  It’s stories like Marti Dumas’ Jala and the Wolves that spring that well of creativity in people when they’re young and take them down this path, where things like Tellest and all the other stories in the Otherworld are possible.

Dumas crafts an excellent story for kids and their parents which takes a girl and throws her into a mysterious world of wolves.  Her craft is definitely praised, as you can see by her ratings and reviews on Goodreads.

Jala_and_the_Wolves_ebook_front

Have you ever dreamed of being a wolf? Jala has. And she thinks her magical mother has found a way to make her dream come true. Her mother won’t actually come right out and say she is magic. That’s not how magic works. But Jala knows magic when she sees it, so she is not a bit surprised when a mysterious mirror appears in her room one day. Like Alice’s looking glass, the mirror opens a portal to a new world. A world of wolves.

Dumas has gone all out for her story, including producing a cute little trailer for the book.

If you’re interested in Jala and the Wolves, check it out on Amazon and Goodreads.  If you want to know more about Dumas and her writing, don’t forget to visit her website.
