Hello there travelers.  Welcome to our second art piece of the new year!  We have got a whole lot of the world left to look at, and then we’ll take a little bit of a break to let me fill in some of the gaps before putting updated maps on the site.  Today though, we’re looking at one of our smallest continents, Brittanea.  Vaguely inspired by Ultima, I wanted to give a nod to one of the more formative games of my youth.  It really ends with the names though, as you’ll soon see.

There are only two real kingdoms to speak of, as much of the land is too harsh to properly colonize.  In the blue, we have Japel Brae, which is said to be haunted, though some brave souls have found a way to make peace with that and erected a few cities there.  And then in red, we have Scadavia, which is a little cozier and more welcoming.  The only city that we know the name of on this continent so far is Felheim in Scadavia, which we’ll talk about a bit more farther down in this article.

Even without the color overlay, the continent doesn’t look all that busy.  There’s a bunch of mountains that sort of break up the traversibility, but it’s otherwise a smaller place that one could navigate fairly easily.

Below, you’ll see the two sneak peek images of the lone city and character who we introduced to the world by way of Quantum Quest.  Felheim is a gnome city that Berras Ames comes from.  He’s our Lightbringer, who did end up having some face time in the upcoming novelization, although he arrived on the scene very late in the story.  In any case, he’s our lone introduction to the continent.  Remember, if you want to see these images a bit bigger, as well as whatever we add to them over time, you’ll need subscriber access which you can only get through Patreon (for now).

While Brittanea joins the long list of continents that haven’t quite had the loving attention of one of the writers just yet, that doesn’t mean that it’ll stay that way for long.  With more writers joining the Tellest pantheon every year, we’re getting more opportunities to experience new stories, and perhaps one of the ones we see soon will take place here.

In three weeks we’ve got a continent in the world that I’m really looking forward to showing off, so be sure to swing back this way again then!

Well howdy!  It is time to look at another continent within the world of Tellest, and we’re looking at yet another one that I haven’t spent a lot of time in.  Those of you who have followed Tellest for a while might see some references to the long-standing game series Ultima here and there in the books, but never is it so present as in the continent of Brittanea.  It is the second smallest continent (by land mass), but there’s a lot to find there.  The two countries, Scadavia and Japel Brae, could not be more different, and there’s a lot of undiscovered wilderness to explore as well.

The map, done by Kay Fullmer of RalarisMaps, only focuses on those two main countries.  Skadavia is home to the gnomes of Felheim, including one of our characters from Quantum Quest, Berras Ames, the Lightbringer.  On the other hand, Japel Brae doesn’t have a lot of known races, because it is said to be haunted.  Only the bravest of folks venture to the islands that make up that chain.  Again, there’s a decent amount of “blank space” just dying to be taken over and united by someone else.  Perhaps Skadavia will expand, or another country will form.

Here, you can see what the map would like like without any borders or country presence.  It’s not too different from most maps, except that here, we don’t see many cities or anything of that nature.  It’s possible that there is a reason for that.  Maybe the mountains are somehow more hospitable than the wilderness.  And maybe we’ll find a way to explore that in the future.

In keeping with the way we have been doing things, we’re ending with the parchment version of the map.  Though Brittanea is a smaller part of Tellest, it still has a big part to play in its future.  I’m looking forward to when we can show off more about it, but in the meantime, keep your eyes peeled.  We’ve still got more continental maps coming.
