I have fond memories of my childhood reading. My favorite series was R. L. Stein’s Goosebumps. Each story was interesting and quirky and had a lot of heart. Even though they rarely connected in any meaningful ways, I was always excited to read the next book. We didn’t have the new classics like J. K. Rowling’s stories, but now that the Harry Potter craze has come and gone, authors are willing to devote themselves to children’s fantasy.
If you’ve got a child who likes to read fantasy, I just found their new favorite series. Ross Rosenfeld has delivered a wonderful set of tales with the Stolen Kingdom Stories. He’s well written, weaves an interesting narrative, and knows his audience well. The first story in his series, The Greenest Valley, is a fun step into his world.
Forced to live underground for hundreds of years due to their deformed appearances, the Pooglians find themselves faced with the prospect of starvation when a harsh winter makes animals scarce and crops nonexistent. Young Winkle and a band of seven other Pooglians are selected for a desperate underground journey to find food. What they find is danger, lurking behind every mysterious twist and turn. Ride along with them on this illustrated fantasy that will leave you asking for more.
Rosenfeld’s work is seeing great acclaim on Amazon. This would make a great first read in your child’s summer reading. Click here to order your copy!
